Heavy fighting between KDF, jubba administration troops on one side and Al-Shabaab fighters was reported in the outskirts of Kismayu last night.

Residents say they heard heavy artillery and gunfire used by both sides in the university of Kismayu in the south of the city.

The Jubba administration officials couldn’t be immediately contacted for Exact casualty figures but unverified reports say at least 10 people mainly from the warring sides were killed on the fighting.

Kismayu, the third largest city in Somalia, is the regional capital of the lower jubba region and a key strategic port city.

Al-Shabaab staged attacks mainly in guerilla form against the Kenyan and Somali forces who captured the city from them in September, 2012.
