South African MP Shot and in Critical at Hospital

reports coming from South Africa say former African National Congress (ANC)
spokesperson and current Member of Parliament
Jackson Mthembu has been shot and wounded.

The Citizen newspaper is reporting Mthembu wa shot at a mall in Witbank on Sunday.

His family told the newspaper the shooting may have been politically motivated.

ANC spokesperson Keith Khoza says they are unable to confirm the report, but party representatives are en route to Mpumalanga to investigate.

“We have been unable to get anybody from the area. We are now going to Mpumalanga, to verify these claims. Once there, we will be able to release a statement.”

Other reports suggest the MP was shot during a robbery incident and he is in intensive care at Hospital.
