Al-Shabaab vows to defend Kudhaa Island from Somali, Kenyan forces retake-over

Somali Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab has vowed to defend the island of Kudhaa of lower Jubba region in Southern Somalia from the expected retake-over attack from the Interim Jubba Administration forces backed by the Kenyan tanks, Aircrafts and artillery ships from the sea.

Senior Al-Shabaab commander, Sheikh Mahamed Dulyadeyn talking to the residents of Kudhaa yesterday reassured them that they will defend the Strategic island from any attacks and that the enemy ( Kenyans and Somali forces) will be defeated.

” even if they bring hundreds of tanks and aircrafts with them in order to expel us from this area, they wont be able to do that and we will eventually defeat them not only here but any future attacks they do against other areas that our fighters control in Somalia,” Sheikh Dulyadeyn told a gathering of Hundreds of civilians in the island of Kudhaa yesterday.

Al-Shabaab recaptured Kudhaa from the Jubba forces in a bloody four-hour-long fighting in early saturday that claimed the lives of more than 60 soldiers from both sides.

Al-Shabaab Military Spokesman, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab told the groups Radio Al-Andulus that they have killed 64 Jubba admin forces and only 3 of their fighters were killed in the fighting.

on the other side , a military spokesman for the Jubba interim Administration, Abdirizak Serar told the BBC Somali Service that only 15 of their soldiers were killed and 19 others were injured.

injured Jubba administration forces topping more than 30 in number were flown from Kismayo to a hospital in Galkayo, Northern Somalia yesterday and according to health officials, majority of the injuries are in serious conditions.
