Somalia: Al-Shabaab capture Toosweyne from Somali, Ethiopian forces

Heavy fighting between Al-Shabaab fighters and Ethiopian, Somali forces on one side was reported in the outskirts of Bardaale, Bay region in South-Western Somalia.

After three hours of heavy fighting in Toosweyne area, outskirts of Bardale town, fighters from Al-Shabaab who attacked the area managed to take it over from Somali forces who were fighting alongside Ethiopian forces.

Residents in the area said they heard heavy weapons being used by both sides.

Mohammed issack Hassan, DC of Bardale talking to the local media said more than 10 people were killed in the fighting and two soldiers from their side sustained minor injures but he couldn’t say who officially controlled Toosweyne area.

Africa Newsroom couldn’t independently verify the claims of the DC and there was no word from Al-Shabaab on today’s fighting.
